Weekend Wanderings 7th & 8th March

What a weekend of sport, Sharks WIN, Proteas WIN, Van Rooyen 3rd, Blitzbok WIN, Proteas WIN AGAIN, Liverpool lose twice, can’t win em all, Zambezi is flooding. Despite all the political crap, SA sports is still managing to thrive, we are all part of it, every time we participate or even just play we beat this oppressive system of governance.

Anyway, on to more positive things, also a few good races last couple of weeks, Dusi maniacs, Maritzburg Marathon, good trail runs. All reports tell of well run events, but the numbers are down, maybe a hint to keep the pricing down even though we all know costs rise blah blah blah.

There are a few races to enter for now, Ultra Trail Drak, Glengarry trails, etc as some of these do not accept late entries and you need some time to save up. This weekend seems a bit sparse, but sometimes events are poorly advertised.

Marshalls 25 km – Sun 8th (Stella Sports Durban)

There is a 25 km and 10 km on offer here with a 5 km walk, great for weekend warm ups and getting in a quick 25 km if you are training for something bigger.

Alley Road Tri-Series – Sun 8th (Durban)

Bit of a misnomer for the middle of their series as these are biathlons, short swim and run, take up an hour or so then you can get on with the day, R150 for the longer version ( 1km swim and 5 km run) and R100 for the short version.

Gooderson Leisure Willem Boshoff Marathon – 8th (Vryheid)

Marathon, half marathon and a 10 km walk, probably the PICK OF THE WEEKEND if you can get there. I have never done this route so cannot comment, but probably relatively fast and good for Comrades.

There is a run at Crusaders Friday night it seems and a Downhill and Enduro MTB series event at Karkloof this weekend ALL weekend, so don your full face and go mad.

Other than that, you are welcome to park at Something Used shop opposite Midmar Dam , slip into your running shoes and go on the meander with purpose, or through Midmar for a nice flat run or ride. There are a few dirt options I can let you know about if you pop in over a cuppa.

Run like you mean it and watch your front wheel, you never know when Cyril will slip you up!!
